Health and wellness are ongoing journeys…  Acupuncture offers a gentle, medication-free path towards that goal.  Most clients who experience acupuncture regularly find that they spend less time being ill, are more relaxed in their daily lives and have a general sense of well-being.

Acupuncture is among the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures.  Thousands of years old, it is currently used by one-third of the world as a primary healthcare system.  Long used to promote general wellness in body, mind and spirit, acupuncture is also employed to grant relief from many chronic conditions such as pain, stress, anxiety, depression, infertility, headache, nausea and allergies.  Today it is also recognized as a treatment for addictions and cravings, for strengthening the immune system and for increasing general awareness.

Ruth Digel earned a Master’s degree in Acupuncture from the Tai Sophia Institute and is licensed in the State of Maryland.  She specializes in Classical Five-Element Acupuncture and is also a certified with the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association as an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist.

What You Can Expect at Your First Acupuncture Visit

Your first visit will be two hours long.  At this time, a complete health history is taken and a Chinese-style physical examination given.  Then you will receive your first acupuncture treatment.  Subsequent visits are one hour in length.

Acupuncture needles are very thin, fine and are made of stainless steel. Since acupuncture needles are solid, they can be made much thinner than ordinary medical injection needles (which must be hollow for the purpose of either putting something into the body, or taking something out of the body).  Acupuncture needles are only the thickness of two human hairs.   All needles used in your acupuncture treatments are sterile, pre-packaged, disposable, for one-time use.

While some people experience immediate relief from certain conditions through acupuncture, it can take longer for others.  Clients are asked to commit to 6 – 8 acupuncture visits.  After the initial series, we can assess the progress of the treatments.
